ATU FACILITATES BROADBAND ADOPTION THROUGH POWERLINE COMMUNICATIONS
3i3s

The African Telecommunications Union (ATU, www.atu-uat.org) is holding a workshop on Powerline Communications (PLC), the alternative last mile platform utilizing the electricity network, on October 3-4 Dakar, Senegal.

Relying on the footprint of energy networks PLC may strongly contribute to the politically desired ubiquitous ICT coverage. The platform is already under commercial exploitation in Europe, Asia and with strongly increasing scale in the USA.

The workshop will address key issues such as technology, invest and business case, standardisation, hybrid platforms (Satellite, Wireless, Fiber & PLC) and others. Through this workshop the ATU aims to encourage information exchange between stakeholders with the goal of increasing the adoption of ICT in Africa through multiple and potentially combined infrastructures.

The workshop is directed at all stakeholders: operators, energy utilities, national regulatory authorities, ministries... Registration and further information available through the ATU website www.atu-uat.org.
